In 2018, the Regional Geriatric Programs of Ontario (RGPO), which later became Provincial Geriatrics Leadership Ontario (PGLO), launched the Senior Friendly Caregiver Education Project. Funded by the Ministry of Health and working in collaboration with caregivers across Ontario, the project team developed the Caregiving Strategies online course and other resources to support the diverse needs of caregivers of seniors living with frailty.
The project team organized focus group sessions in ten communities across Ontario. These sessions were conducted with the help of trusted and skilled professionals and volunteers from each community. We listened to 133 caregivers as they expressed their learning needs, told their stories, and shared their caregiving experiences.
Many people made the development of this course possible. We would like to express our gratitude to the caregivers from across Ontario who took time from their busy schedules to join us in focus groups and share stories of their caregiving experiences.
We also want to thank you for taking the time to complete this course and sharing it with others. You have deepened our understanding about what you do every day and what you want to learn about frailty. This project would not have been possible without your participation and commitment to the people you care for each day.
We are also grateful for the time and dedication of the professionals and volunteers from communities across Ontario who supported our efforts by hosting local focus groups and helped make it possible for us to connect with caregivers.
The PGLO would like to acknowledge the Ministry of Health for recognizing the important role that caregivers play in supporting the well-being of seniors living with frailty. The Ministry provided funding for this project.
This course was built upon the strong foundation provided by the Senior Friendly 7 topics proposed by the Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto. This project would not have been possible without the research and expertise spearheaded by this exceptional team. The PGLO is fully responsible for the contents in this handbook and any errors or omissions.
